IMPACT Coaching
My coaching approach is based on decades of experience
and is geared toward achieving lasting IMPACT.
While my approach consistently follows the evidence-based steps below, each component is customized for each client to provide a meaningful, targeted and efficient process.
Clients gain heightened self-awareness through tools that include benchmarked leadership style surveys, personality inventories, measures of core motivators and values, and coach-facilitated inquiry. At the same time, external perspectives are gathered through performance measurement, contextual evaluation, and stakeholder interviews compiled into a comprehensive 360 report.
Inside-out and outside-in data from the “Inquire" step are compared and deeply explored to derive key themes, implications, and priorities.
Coaching sessions focus on identifying current opportunities, strategizing optimal approaches, practicing and coach feedback, and making commitments for on-the-job action. What happens in between coaching sessions is crucial to development. With sponsor support, clients take calculated risks, conduct experiments, and deliberately engage in new approaches. By applying learnings, clients test former assumptions, gain new skills, and shift external perceptions.
Feedback is regularly collected throughout the coaching engagement to ensure efforts are achieving their intended impact. Clients deepen skills in acting with intention, gathering and reflecting on feedback, course-correcting, and continuously developing. This step surfaces tough obstacles, resistance to change, and blind spots that need to be addressed. Importantly, progress and wins are also identified and celebrated.
As the engagement draws to a close, final metrics are collected and reviewed. Key learnings and success factors are identified and integrated. Strategies are put in place to sustain and build upon progress. Clients and sponsors are equipped with frameworks, strategies, and tools for continuous development.
The IMPACT process not only ensures lasting results, it also directly addresses three interconnected paths of discovery and development.
Self
Meaningful change stems from a clear understanding of one’s values, beliefs, motivators, and sense of highest purpose. It’s also important to appreciate the contribution of key experiences, underlying thought patterns and habitual emotional and behavioral reactions. Recognizing key influences and making shifts within the self enable achieving what matters most and becoming an authentic, intentional leader.
Relationship
Successful leaders achieve results through and with others. Leaders need to establish trusting relationships, partner across the organization to achieve shared outcomes, influence decisions and progress, empower and inspire others to action, and lead with an appreciation of their impact on others.
Context
Leadership takes place within a complex web of factors that include organizational history and culture, external market conditions and customer demands, and company-specific tools, structures, and processes. Leaders need to attend to spoken and unspoken performance expectations and be mindful of the role they play in the broader system.
